When Stephanie and Matthew told me they were getting married at the Sydonie Mansion I was so excited because I had heard amazing things about this venue. The Sydonie Mansion has quickly become one of my favorite venues since, and I can’t wait to photograph more of my couples there in 2020! The mansion isn’t only perfect for couples photos in the garden, but the indoor settings make for the most timeless “getting ready” images and the back yard is perfect for ceremonies, cocktail hours, and receptions!
The Sydonie Mansion is located in Mount Dora, Florida and was first established in 1883, making it an ideal location for couples wanting to get married in a timeless and historical location. The landscaping surrounding the mansion makes for great family, wedding party, and couples photos, as well as being great for outdoor ceremonies! There are endless locations around the property to capture romantic couples photos and details, such as the winding staircase up to the bridal suite, the rod iron gates at the east entrance, the swings under the canopy trees, and the garden.
The garden has spiraling trees and blooming flowers, as well as a fountain with sidewalks around each side. In the garden you’ll also find the magical whispering wall which has distinctly European architecture. Once you’ve explored the main areas around the mansion, you can head down to the boat house where the light is perfect around mid-day! You’ll want to be careful around the boat house as it can be muddy, but if you’re a couple who is into adventure, you’ll have a blast and get some gorgeous images down there!
After you’ve seen all that the exterior of the Sydonie Mansion has to offer, indoors you’ll find a bridal suite with beautiful natural light and wooden accents. The wall art points to the mansions history and features past couples through the ages who have gotten married at the mansion. It’s a reminder of the rich history surrounding the venue! On the other end of the mansion from the bridal suite, you’ll find an indoor staircase which is ideal for indoor first looks with moms, dads, bridal parties, and the groom! On Steph and Matt’s day, I used the staircase for her first look with her dad as well as some bridal portraits.
Just outside of this staircase area you’ll find a room which can be used for those with small guest lists to enjoy their cocktail hour or dinner inside. My couple opted for an outdoor reception which was great for a mid-December wedding! Around the other side of the staircase area you’ll find the foyer where dramatic light makes for ideal bridal portraits and a place for the wedding party and family to hide before the ceremony!
Matt & Steph’s ceremony was held behind the mansion under the canopy trees. The sun was setting and made for some beautiful light, even though the day was a bit cloudy. Their ceremony, family/wedding party photos, cocktail hour, and reception were all held in the same central area, making rounding up family and friends for photos much easier than other venues!
Overall the Sydonie Mansion is the perfect venue for stunning photos from start to finish. My team and I had so much fun dreaming up places to hang the dress, pose the bride, and capture playful images of the couple. There’s no shortage of amazing locations and lighting at this venue, and if a classic and timeless venue is what you’re looking for – then you’ve found the right venue!
Are you getting married at the Sydonie Mansion? I’d love to hear what you have planned and work with you to make all of your wedding photography dreams come true!
